DATACORE | CASE STUDY
The Client is a national tax preparation company, whose business provides computerized preparation of federal, state and local individual income tax returns in the United States through a nationwide network of franchised and companyowned offices. The Client provides its customers with convenient, fast and quality tax preparation services and electronic filing. In connection with their tax return preparation experience, customers may select various financial products to suit their needs, including refund anticipation loans (RALs).

The Client never had a strategic roadmap for how its technology components were built; instead it evolved over a period of 20 years. As a result, the foundation for business execution became incredibly complex and expensive to maintain. The Client’s technology group spent twice as much to earn a dollar of revenue and twice as much of their budget on maintaining old systems as its competitors. It was decided the Client would need a modernized framework of architecture, applications and tools that would be highly responsive to the rapidly changing business demands.

Services performed by Data-Core:

  • Defined and planned an Enterprise Architecting Program.
  • Provided program code maintenance, enhancements and support for production applications.
  • Implemented modifications to the Central Data Mart (CDM) along with supporting ETL enhancements, augmented the existing Enterprise Reporting (ER) cubes with additional facts and dimensions and created new cubes based on user requirements.
  • Evaluated and implementated business intelligence tool(s) for ad hoc queries and data mining.
  • Provided full service testing for the Client’s QC Applications team.
  • Completed defect logging and retesting, maintenance of defect metrics and defect analysis.

The Client’s new framework is extensible, flexible, scalable, agile and secure, thus transforming the Client’s technology team into a high performance, best-in-class organization. This initiative was implemented over the course of three years.
