The client faced challenges in executing a critical data warehousing project. Their goal was to develop a flexible, scalable, and resilient data mart, prefabricated reports, and a robust data warehouse.
The client lacked the necessary resources and technological expertise to execute the project effectively, prompting them to collaborate with Data-Core Systems.
As in any SDLC, the first step involved Requirement Analysis. This client had an intermediate team, also known as the functional Team, which interacted on a continuous basis with end users to gather and document business requirements. Data-Core Systems’ analysts acted as an extension of the team and created the functional specifications as an end result of this exercise.
Not all users used OLAP Cubes for analyzing sales data. for such cases, Data-Core built prefabricated reports using COGNOS Impromptu. The process involved:
For effective Datamart design, Data-Core used the Dimensional Analysis Document, Measures, Prefabricated Reports requirements and foreseeable future enhancements. The deliverables included dimension table design, a definition of slowly changing dimensions to maintain history, fact table design (measures are stored in fact tables), the Datamart Model in Snowflake Schema, the table keys, constraints and relationships, and the security model with embedded data which is required for secure transactions.
Data-Core Systems delivered the project within three months, achieving a 20% reduction in labor effort. The result was a scalable, flexible data warehouse that enabled the client to adapt to evolving business needs seamlessly. The success of the project set a benchmark for future data-driven initiatives.
